WEEK 1: Let’s get (playfully) strategic! This welcome session is all about setting you up for success by establishing a mindset of long-game thinking + playful iteration. You’ll also learn about the most common book writing goals—the three C’s of Credibility, Content, and Craft—and how to get clear on yours. Your Week One Mantra is: Don’t attach!
WEEK 2: Discover your muse, and how you’ll change her life. Books sell when they have a clear promise to a specific audience. This is the week when you’ll meet your muse, the one person whose life will change after reading your book, and you’ll study her PPQ—her pain, problem, and question—as a way to stay connected to your book’s key message. Your Week Two Mantra is: If you’re writing for everyone, you’re writing for no one.
WEEK 3: Sharpen your big, juicy, irresistible, counterintuitive idea. Here we go! In this session, you’ll learn expert tips and insider exercises that will fine-tune your idea so that it’s dynamic, totally original, and flexible enough to keep growing and changing as you write, edit, and SELL your book to an agent and editor. Your Week Three mantra is: They say…
WEEK 4: Make your book stand out by being completely you. Agents and editors are looking for books that stand out, but how can you get attention if you’re writing in a crowded space? In this session, you’ll study a bestselling author and how she created room on the shelf by amplifying her unique author-ity. Your Week Four Mantra: My unfair advantage is…
WEEK 5: Unlock your book idea with the perfect guiding image, metaphor, or trope. Finding a structure or framework that is as brilliant as you are and CLEAR at the same time is one of the biggest challenges of writing and selling a book. In this session, you’ll learn the secrets to finding an organizing principle that easily translates into the perfect title and a subtitle that will speak directly to your ideal reader. Your Week Five Mantra is: Clear over clever.
WEEK 6: Align your writing goals with your publishing path. Get ready to learn about the world of publishing and how to find your place in it. This session is all about finding the publishing path that fits your life and your goals, whether it’s one of the Big Five, Indie, Hybrid, or Self-publishing. But don’t worry—you can always change your mind. Your Week Six Mantra is: There’s a path for you.
WEEK 7: Finally! The 7 parts of a proposal that SELLS! Congratulations! You’ve found clarity about your muse, your counterintuitive idea, your guiding image, metaphor or trope, and your publishing path. Now your proposal will practically write itself :) Especially after we walk you step-by-step through the wonderfully nonlinear seven parts of a proposal that SELLS. Your 7 Week Mantra is: Iterate, iterate, iterate.
